Office and Bio

President

Bio for Randy Norris

I am a 53 year old widower. Born in New Hanover County, moved to Columbus County as an infant where I have resided since. I have a 24 year old son, Randall who has been a CBA member for the past couple years. My father, Willard 75 years young and his wife Nancy are CBA members and of course ride their own bikes. My mother lives next door to me and I guess she thinks I’m crazy the way I travel with my motorcycle, but she accepts it and goes on.

My job experiences have consisted of a four year tour in the U S Navy where I was trained to be an electrician. After service I worked as an electrician at several major manufacturing facilities. For the past 15 years I have been the production/maintenance supervisor at a local air conditioning manufacturing plant, which I help get started.

I started riding motorcycles at age 16 and have never looked back. Motorcycling is my mind release, nothing like the open road. My hobbies and / or interest are of course riding my 2000 Road King, watching ice hockey and college basketball. GO CAROLINA !!!

My CBA experience started in the very early 90’s, but my job prevented me from being active. In 1999 I helped form the Columbus County CBA chapter, where I have been president since. Our chapter and I became very involved in motorcyclist’s right and issues.  In 2002-03  I served on the Board of Directors as Eastern District Coordinator.

2004-05  I served as State Vice President, after stepping down for a couple months I came back in Feb. 2006 to assume the position of State President were I have served continuously.

I have enjoyed my tenure on the BOD and as a member, and I would like to continue the work that we do .The members, family and friends in CBA/ABATE of NC have gotten me through some tough times this past year with the loss of my wife Wendy. This is another reason for me to devote my time and efforts to the Organization.

I thank you all for your time and support !

Respectfully,

Randy Norris

Vice-President

BIO FOR CHARLIE BOONE

Personal:

54 years old, grew up in Rocky Mount, Southern born and bred.  Married since 2001 to Ruth who has twin sons who are 30 years old.  I have one son, JT, now 20 yrs. old who is in the USAF.  He was named for two of my CBA brothers who were killed in separate m/c accidents.  He was brought up at CBA functions and became Raleigh Chapter President shortly after his 18th birthday.  His mom was former CBA State Secretary Sheila Maness Boone who is now deceased.  I also consider JT’s brother David Fowler, age 24, as my son since he was raised in my home from the age of 2.  I enjoy what leisure time that I can squeeze out at our little getaway at Lake Gaston.  Come visit with us sometime.

Business:  Have worked for UPS in Raleigh since 1973, started as a part time package handler.  Went full time in 1975, drove package car for nine years, have been driving tractor trailer since 1984.  Hold additional duty as non-management co-chair of department safety committee.  Hope to retire at the end of 2010.  Started a small snack/soda vending company in 1995.  Sold this company in 2009 to make more time for CBA duties.

Motorcycles:

Have had only three.  Bought a ’65 Honda Super Hawk at the age of 18 (against my parent’s wishes, of course).  It still sits in my back yard for the kids to play on.  Bought a 1976 H-D Super Glide in 1977 at the age of 24, that is my current ride.  Also have a 1999 Titan custom that I bought to ride while my shovelhead was being rebuilt.  Have never been able to ride as much as I would have liked throughout the years because I was always hauling around a ton of CBA stuff everywhere I went.  Prefer the back roads, hate wearing a helmet (and always have).  In the future, I hope to own an Ultra Classic for the long rides.

CBA History:

Joined Raleigh CBA in 1978 solely because I wanted to help fight the mandatory helmet law.  Met Rick Nail at a Charlotte swap meet a year or so later, thought that I had met God.  Later discovered that he was just a regular guy (Rick, that is).  Became Raleigh chapter President within a few years, did 10+ years of presidential duty throughout the years.  Joined the Board of Directors as Information Director upon the switchover to that organizational format.  Held that position for about seven years, also was newsletter editor for five of those years.  Was involved in the formation of the current CBA Constitution during this time also, and held the position of Constitution Committee chairman.  Had to back away for a couple of years then due to the ill health of my wife.  Came back onto the BOD as Eastern District Coordinator, a position which I still hold.  Reassumed position of Constitution Committee chairman.  Was CBA rep to the MRF for a couple of years and have attended several MRF and NCOM conventions.  Have been editor of the CBA calendar for the last 10 years or so.  Developed the CBA Young Activist Program and the CBA Points Program during the last couple of years.  Basically I just try to help out wherever and whenever needed for anything CBA.

Personal Philosophy:

Work hard, play hard, never knowingly tell a lie, and take responsibility for your actions.  Some say that I’m hard headed, that’s better for you to judge than me, I just don’t see it.  I try to be open to suggestions from everyone, and I certainly don’t ever hold it against anyone for having an opinion different from mine.  I sometimes talk too much and don’t listen enough, please don’t hesitate to point that out when it occurs.  I do realize that you learn much more when you zip your lip and open your ears.

Office of the Vice President:

With the help of the BOD and the membership, I hope to continue adding chapters and members throughout the state and finding more people who really care about preserving our right to ride free.  I am eager to confront the challenges that will come our way over the next few years.  I see no real problems in the way that our organization works, but there is always room for improvement in every operation.  I will work with anyone who wants to build up our organization.  I urge each and every one of our members to exercise their right to vote for whoever they believe has the qualifications and experience to lead the CBA into the future.  Thank you for caring enough to be involved.

Earnest "Kip" Roseman

I am 58 years old, married to Janie a very devoted wife for 36 years. We have no children because we found out very early in our marriage that she couldn’t have any. I have been a truck driver since I was 18 wanted to follow in my Fathers foot steps. We have lived in Mt. Holly all our married life. I lived in Myrtle Beach for about 2 years. I’ve been riding a motorcycle since I was 18. I joined the Gaston County CBA in Jan. of 2007, about a month into it I was appointed to the position of Sgt. of Arms, with in 2 months one of our Vice Presidents stepped down and I was voted to take his place, then about 4 months later the other stepped down, at that point I became the only one, I finished out the rest of the year this way. At the elections for the next year I was voted in, uncontested, the next full year.  I worked very hard with the members of our Chapter to make this the States largest Chapter, but I didn’t do this alone, I was just a small part, I would like to think that I was one of the good leaders who helped to bring us this far in a very short period of time. My goals for the future as State Vice President if elected, is to work very hard with the President elect and Chapters to help educate and make us all strong in what we do and stand for especially in the Western District where I would like to see more Chapters formed and pulling all together, because the more we have to stand and work together the stronger and louder we can be. I may not know everything there is to know. But I am open to learn and do my very best. Thank you very much for taking your valuable time to read this and I hope you will consider me to be your Vise President for the ensuring term.

Thanks,

Kip Roseman

Gaston County Chapter

Secretary

Cat Mohan

My name is Catherine aka Cathy aka Cat.  My father was a Sergeant in the Air Force which means we moved every few years when I was growing up.  I’ve lived in California, New York, New Mexico, Washington DC, Maryland, Panama Canal Zone, Japan, New Mexico, Alaska, and Florida.  When I was growing up, our ‘home base’ was my mother’s hometown which was Memphis so I always felt like a southerner despite my father coming from New York (yes, the city).  When I moved here to NC in 1982 with husband Mohan and my children, I knew I’d finally come home.  I love this area and hope to stay here for many more years.

I became aware of the CBA when I participated in a Freedom Run in Raleigh that began from the Youth Center at the Raleigh Fairgrounds; this was around the mid-1980s.  My husband was already a member so we decided to join as a couple after that ride.  That was when I was riding on the back of the bike.  In 1992, I decided to take the MSF Beginner's class and started riding my own bike. I remember how my instructor talked about how he tried to be careful on the road; he was one of those riders that purposely chose to ride a bright yellow bike and wear a yellow helmet to match to be visible.  He left a lasting impression on me and I will always be grateful for having had an instructor who taught me so much about riding.  A few years ago, I read in the newspaper about an MSF instructor who was killed while riding his Yamaha.  He was on his way to work as an optometrist and a UPS truck made that deadly left turn in his path.  That was the MSF instructor who taught me to ride.   Needless to say, I was saddened by this news and it strengthened my resolve to help this organization that fights for the rights of motorcyclists and to raise awareness of motorcyclists on the road.

Some people have asked me about my nickname ‘Cat’ – especially since they hear some people call me Cathy.  Well, long habits die hard but I starting calling out my name as Cat in memory of Jane Janosko who was killed in a motorcycle accident about 10 years ago. Jane and her husband, John, were officers with Chatham CBA.  They were the first ones who called me Cat regularly and I like to think that calling my name out as Cat is a way of keeping Jane’s memory alive.

Currently, I'm riding a Heritage Softail and it suits me fine.  I’ve ridden many times to local events but I’ve also ridden to New York, Florida and Sturgis.  I love to ride, wish I had more time for it.

Respectfully,

Cat Mohan

I have held the position of State Treasure for the past 2 years. I take this position very seriously. The members of the organization have trusted me with their money and it is my job to guard it and help it grow, all of which I feel I have done. On the local level I am an active member of the Triad CBA/ABATE of NC and have held various positions within the chapter. I have tormented this chapter for many years now with my presence.

Terri Hairston
Charlotte CBA
Nominee for Information Officer

Terri began riding over 40 years ago.  When she became a mother of two boys she did not get back on a motorcycle until her new husband  re-introduced her to the motorcycle life. The motorcycle  was a Harley Davidson Electra-Glide Classic with a sidecar.  Being in the sidecar and not controlling  the bike did not sit very well with her. So it was not long until Terri got her motorcycle endorsement and the bike and sidecar was transformed into a trike.  In the last four months Terri is rarely seen on the back of the bike or riding with Louie, she is out by herself dreaming of getting her own bike very soon.

Terri and her husband were introduced to the CBA and the MSAP program.  Once hearing  about the MSAP program and the legislation being done Terri knew at once she wanted to get involved.  Terri has been affiliated with CBA/ABATE for 19 months and in that time has been the chapter newsletter editor, assisted in maintaining the web page.  Over the last 19 months she has served on the Events Committee, and worked several poker runs and fund runs. Terri designed several flyers for different events.  Last year Terri participated in the MSAP training program and joined the other instructors in the chapter presenting the program to Driver Education Classes in local high schools.

Terri is the mother of two grown sons. After meeting and marrying Louie who has three sons she became a new wife, mother of five and is now Nana to three grandsons and a granddaughter. Living in North Carolina for the past 15 years Terri has worked for the Carolinas Healthcare System as a Driver Rehabilitation Specialist and Director of the Volunteer Department of Charlotte Institute of Rehabilitation.  During that time Terri was  responsible for the clinical evaluations, classroom instruction and behind the wheel evaluation and training of new drivers and individuals returning to driving after injury, illness or age.  Terri trained new high school students who were challenged learning to drive a motor vehicle.

Terri has served on the Board of Directors to the following organizations; National Multiple Sclerosis Society, American Cancer Society, Florida Mobility Equipment Dealers Association, National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association,  Association of Driver Educators for the Disabled and the North Carolina Association of Driver Educators for the Disabled..  Terri was instrumental in “Train the Trainer”  a program presented by the American Automobile Association educating Driver Specialist’s  and Driver Educators.

During the 1970’s Terri founded a company World of Independence, Inc. in Orlando Florida building and adapting vehicles for the handicapped.  In 1990 she opened a second company in Knoxville Tennessee.  The Orlando Company is stilled owned and operated by her family.

Today Terri and her husband Louie reside in Mount Holly North Carolina with their two dogs, Peanut and Rozie.  Occasionally she does consulting work for some local physicians.  Terri and Louie are both retired and ride as often as their life permits.

Legislative Director

Thomas J. Wasileski, PhD

Legislative Director for CBA/ABATE of North Carolina

Registered Lobbyist, NC Bike-PAC

Doc Ski rode his first motorized-cycle at 14.   He traded his three-speed English racer bicycle, for a Lambreta (pedal to start) motor-scooter .  Since the Lambreta required repairs, he pushed it the five miles home; and, with assistance from his father, completed the necessary repairs.  That first trip on the Lambreta began his love affair with motorcycles and fueled his enthusiasm for the freedom of the road.

Doc Ski has been a member of NC CBA/ABATE for more than ten years.  He is on the Board of Directors for the National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM), and a Sustaining State MRO Representative on the Board of Directors of the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF).  He was a founding member of the North Carolina Confederation of Motorcycle Clubs.   He is a retired member of the Viet Nam Vets M/C USA where he has served in leadership positions at the chapter, state, and regional level.  Doc Ski was nominated by NC Motorcycle Rights Organizations as their candidate to serve as one of the two designated positions for State Motorcycle Rights Organizations, on the United States Department of Transportation's Motorcyclist Advisory Council to the Federal Highway Administrator (FHWA).

Doc Ski began his adult life as a high school drop out.  He joined the U.S. Army at 17 years old, and spent the next twenty years of his life in service to his country.  He fought Communism on three different continents, in eleven countries and in seven languages.  He was an Airborne, Ranger, and Special Forces (Green Beret) qualified soldier.

While in the army Doc Ski was forced to complete his GED and continue his formal education in order to compete for promotions.  When he retired from the Army in 1985 Doc Ski had received a Bachelor’s Degree from Columbia College.  He went back to school and received a Masters Degree in Special Education from Fayetteville State University.  After working several years in public schools teaching children with learning difficulties, he returned to school and earned a PhD in Education (Special Education/ Developmental Psych) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Among his many accomplishments in academia, Doc Ski was awarded a grant to provide services to children and families of Viet Nam Veterans.  “Project Agent Orange” was funded from the moneys awarded in a class-action law suit against chemical companies that manufactured the defoliant Agent Orange, an herbicide used in Vietnam.  The program helped many children and families in North Carolina and the program continued to receive funding until all class-action funds were disbursed.

As a research scientist and a member of the faculty Doc Ski has served in a variety of positions, including principal investigator, on several federal and private agency grants, bringing more than $1,000,000 into the University of North Carolina System during his tenure.  Among the many projects he received funding for, he is most proud of his work in the development, accreditation, and funding for a program to teach Special Education teachers to teach children who are blind and/or visually impaired.

He is currently retired from the world of work and living “in the woods” of Chatham County North Carolina with his bride Katie, his HD Bagger (FLHTCUI), two Custom Motorcycles (Soft-tail Replicas) he built, and more than fifteen “foster” dogs.

Membership Services Director

Bio for Iris Hindle

My name is Iris Hindle and I have been a member of Chatham County CBA for 12 ½ years, ever since my husband Mikey took me to a chapter meeting on our first date. At that meeting I found a group of people who accepted me for who I was. It did not matter if I was thin, or fat, rich or poor, funny or not, the people there were very genuine with their friendship and before I left that night, I knew I had found a “new family”. During my time with Chatham County I have served as Chapter Secretary and Chapter Historian. I have also helped out on the state level by working on the events committee and being an active legislative warrior, whether it was going to the legislative building or sending e-mails to my representatives when the call went out. My husband and I currently ride a 2005 Victory Cruiser (as I have gotten older, my back seat has widen, so the bike’s back seat had to widen too). We enjoy riding in Franklin County and Chatham County as well as cross country to Sturgis, SD. We live within spitting distance of 3 really great chapters (Granville, Raleigh and Chatham) and attend as many events that these chapters sponsor as we can.

I was born and raised in Franklinton, NC, same hometown my dad was raised in. I finished high school and went off to NC State, where being away from home for the first time, I socialized and went to too many parties. I left the university on academic probation and returned home where my parents made sure I got a job straight away. I worked at a local nursing home where my mother was a charge nurse. While I enjoyed working with the older folks there, listening to their stories, I knew I needed to go back to school if I was ever going to get anywhere, so I enrolled at a 2 year technical college and got a degree in Radiological Science.

Using my degree, I got a job at Duke University Medical Center where I worked as a special procedures x-ray technologist for 12 years. I got hurt on the job and was unable to continue the type of work I was doing, but had been exposed to the world of research and decided to pursue a career in the field of drug research.

I started out as a study coordinator for a multi-specialty research firm, and then moved to monitoring drug trials for a large contract research organization. During my time at this company, I moved from monitoring to management and training of other monitors. All my experience in research has taught me to have a strong attention to detail, Excel spreadsheets are life’s blood to me and management has taught me to have a pretty thick hide and patience when dealing with people. Because I have a home office already set up, I have a dedicated fax machine, phone line and lap top. I do not have a large capacity copier at my home currently but would be willing to work with the State to see if we could reach some sort of compromise whether is reimbursement for copies done at Staples or if the State could help me find a cheap one for purchase.

Like a true family, the CBA and its membership have been there for me and others in good times and bad. We may not always get along, but name one family that does. I owe a lot to this group and feel it is time for me to pay it back by serving as Membership Director and I too feel I have the necessary skills and heart to handle this position. I am fully aware that it is not going to be a walk in the park and I am ready for that. But to keep the CBA moving forward we need to keep our current members happy and recruit new members who will bring new ideas and life blood into the group. As Membership Director, I would like to work with the PR and State Information Director to come up with new ideas to keep the membership happy and growing.

Dale Carroll is a worthy opponent and I feel if either of us is elected to this position, it will be a win-win for State CBA. I must agree with him, I doubt either one of us knows what we have let ourselves in for but won’t it be a thrilling adventure?

Bio for Dale Carroll

My name is Dale Carroll. I have been a member of CBA of NC  Gaston County Chapter for 3 years. I have served as Legislative Officer and Treasurer. Prior to that, I was in Concerned Motorcyclists of Tennessee/ABATE for about 8 years. I served as Legislative officer for my chapter for most of that time. I also served as Membership Director for on the CMT State BOD for 2 years.

Members and therefore the Membership committee are the most important aspect of this organization. Without them, we are only self-indulgent egomaniacs who like to sit in a room and listen to ourselves chatter. The primary objective for an officer at either level, state or chapter, should be to serve the members and also the organization. Now, some folks in CBA have at times called into question whether I actually serve the organization or exist only to be a pain in the ass. I am brusque, opinionated and sometimes(?) unpleasant to talk to. But, in my opinion I have NEVER personally insulted any member of this organization. Disagreeing with you and candidly talking about the reasons for doing so, I don’t consider insults. This is a volunteer organization, however when you step up to the Officer level you don’t get more privileges , you actually get more responsibility and scrutiny. Please reference the old heat and kitchen cliché.

After speaking with Gail at the last state meeting, I came to several conclusions. I do have the knowledge and drive to be the Membership Director. What I don’t have is the financial resources to operate the Membership Committee as she has done. I will not be able to front hundreds of dollars ( Yes Gail does this!) to operate membership between BOD meetings. Expenses such as stamps, envelopes, copies, etc will have to be budgeted and paid for at the beginning of  each quarter. Others ,such as, a dedicated fax line, a fax machine, a large capacity copier, these are things I don’t have and CBA will have to assume the expense.

I have recently opened a small store in Gastonia. I will route the membership phone line through it. That way I will be available (unless with a customer) from 10 to 6 most days if you have a membership issue that can’t be addressed by email. My plan is to process memberships weekly and mail them on Monday morning. I will institute an actual committee to help prepare the memberships in a timely fashion. I think that ALL the membership duties fall under the direction of the Membership Director. By this I mean I will not accept this position ( if elected) if a separate position of MEMBERSHIP PROCESSOR ( which is not in the constitution) is approved . Old ties are soon forgotten ( I made that one up). One person needs to be in charge of the Membership duties.

I would like to commend Iris Hemby for also running for the Membership Director. It may very well be that I will breathe a sigh of relief if she is elected. I doubt if either of us knows what we have let ourselves in for.

Eastern District Coordinator

D. MATT SHAMBLIN

My first motorcycle “seat” was actually the gas tank of my dads Yamaha. I guess I was seven or eight years old when he took me for my first ride. From there I moved up to the gas tank of his Triumph “Bonneville 650”. Soon after that, I graduated to the back seat and from there I moved to my first mini bike, it was a Honda “MiniTrail 50”. For the next several years it seems as though I was determined to destroy that mini bike or myself, whichever came first. If you ever had one of those little bikes, you undoubtedly know that I couldn’t have destroyed it with anything short of plutonium. I put quite a few dents and dings in that thing, but it never quit. I obviously never succeeded at destroying myself either, although I do have some interesting x-rays to show for my efforts. Somewhere around Junior High School I got interested in girls and bigger bikes. I forgot all about my mini bike & started riding whatever kind of bike I could borrow. After I moved out, dad took that mini bike with him (for some unknown reason) when he & mom moved to Henderson. When I was about twenty-one or twenty-two, dad gave that bike to a kid that lived down the road in exchange for some yard work (which is how I had earned it in the first place). Dad later told me that he thought the kid was going to kill himself kicking that thing to get it started, but with Dads help on the carburetor, they got it started and the kid rode that bike home that day.

For the next twenty years or so, I expended all my efforts supporting the family that Debbie & I made for ourselves. I did a lot of looking and dreaming, but I knew I couldn’t afford another bike for at least a few years.

It was a wonderful day for me in the spring of 1997 when my youngest son came to me and told me he wanted a dirt bike. He was the last of our three children still at home so I had a little more money to burn by then. Soon after that, he & I went to a local bike shop to pick out a suitable bike for him. A week later, we went back to get mine. (I couldn’t leave him to learn by himself could I ?!?) somewhere around 2000, he temporarily lost interest in his motorcycle so I decided to try riding the highways again & I haven’t looked back since. I’m proud to say that he still rides with me whenever he gets a chance (now on different types of bikes).

I already knew a little about CBA/ABATE of N.C. because of a long standing family friendship with Mark Ratliff (Past President Carteret/Craven Chapter) & his wife Kim, who are sadly both now deceased. Joining CBA seemed like a no-brainer to me so I wasted no time. I think I made the move to a life membership in 2003, not long after I became a life member of the NRA.

When the MSAP program was introduced at our chapter (2004?), I immediately knew I had to become a part of it. Jim Barker & I made our first presentation in the spring of 2005 and our chapter’s MSAP Instructors haven’t missed a single class in Carteret County since then. Along the way we have had the full financial and moral support of our chapter and acquired some much needed additional Instructors also. I can only hope that all present and future MSAP Instructors experience the same level of support from their respective chapters. That support allows us to do something that we believe in very strongly, and for that, we are forever thankful.

Fate and Jim Burns led me being recommended for the directorship of the S, E, &A Committee when he had to step down because of family considerations. My only qualifications for the position at that time were my efforts with the MSAP program. Randy and the membership put their faith in me and told me to go for it. The support I have received from the members of CBA/ABATE of N.C. since then have been nothing short of phenomenal. Without ya’ll and your efforts, all we would have is a really good idea. I sincerely thank you all.

The time has come for me to step aside from S.E.A. to let a new voice and a fresh perspective build on our past accomplishments and expand MSAP to a larger audience.

Because of your support and enthusiasm for our organization and its mission, I would like to continue my service to you in a different capacity so I have accepted the nomination for Eastern District Coordinator. I know I’m in for some OJT, but with your continued support, I hope we can expand our membership in the Eastern District and increase our influence in the General Assembly of N.C.

                                                              Respectfully,

                                                                    Matt Shamblin

Biography For CBA Central District Coordinator Nominee:

Robert "Shaggy" Causey

There are a few things you need to know about Shaggy.  For starters, that's not my real name.  I was honored with that nickname in 1998 by Mark Little.  My "real" name is Robert Causey.  I am 43 years old and was born and raised here in NC.  OK, enough about that stuff...

I have been riding since I was 8.  I started on the traditional 5hp mini-bike, and on the back of my cousin's 750 BSA.  When I turned 16, my first set of wheels was a CM400 Custom Honda.  I rode it all through high school.  Fresh out of school, I thought it seemed like a great time to raise two wonderful kids:  Chris(27) and Brittany(23).

Now you know little about my life outside the organization, here's a brief history of my involvement in the CBA/ABATE of NC.  Back in 1994, I met this lady who was a member of the Randolph County Chapter.  She took me to their swap meet, and I was hooked!  I joined that chapter and was active for about two years, then I got out for personal reasons.  In 1998, I re-joined with Randolph County and was actively involved in most everything the chapter did.  In 2003 I transferred to, what was then the High Point Chapter where I held the Vice-President position.  Then, in 2004 I was voted in as President, and I've held that position ever since.  In 2006, our chapter voted to expand our membership pool and change our name to the Triad Chapter. Most of you know that I have spent the last two years as the Central District Coordinator, and I am honored to be nominated again.

You know when I joined this organization I was drawn in because of all the toy rides, poker runs, and swap meets, but over time I've come to realize that my passion and focus have turned toward finding ways for my chapter to make an impact by educating other bikers, legislators, and even the cagers about how our organization works to ensure fair legislation, and safer riders and riding conditions.  Becoming an MSAP instructor (and now the MSAP Central Dist. Coord.) is one of my proudest achievements in CBA.  If I can take an hour or two per class and educate these young drivers that we're out here...that gives me hope that I can watch my 4 yr old granddaughter, Bailey, and my brand new grandson, Aiden grow up.  Hopefully, with all the hard work this organization is doing, I can even leave them my old '81 Super Glide Shovelhead, and they'll still be able to ride it legally!

Well, that's it folks...you got a glimpse of who I am, how I got here, and how I've grown with this organization.  Now I'd like to ask you to let my experience as a chapter officer be of use to you as your Central District Coordinator, once again.  If I'm elected I would like to find ways to encourage more chapter interaction on both district and state levels.  For example:  I will work with the V.P. and the other District Coordinators on a state event where we can all get to know each other and have a great time!  Another big priority for me would be working with Matt to get as many MSAP instructors in as many counties and schools as possible. In closing, I'd like to say that probably my biggest goal as your Central District Coordinator would be to implement an effective grassroots phone and/or email tree that can be used on a chapter, district and state level to make sure that all of the chapters are up to date on what's going on with other chapters and districts, and what's being done (or needs to be done) on the state level to fight for our rights!!! Doc's new "Call to Action" phone alerts have been very effective, and we should follow his lead beyond just legislative emergencies.  Let's communicate and network about all of the issues and opportunities and get some stuff done!  Thanks for your time and remember:  VOTE FOR ME!!!!! BIO FOR RITA SPAULDING

47 years old, born in New England and grew up in Louisiana. Was a bit of a gypsy in her younger years and has had the privilege to see and live in many different places from attending college in New Hampshire to ranching in central Texas to living in Scharnhausen, Germany for two years.  Settled in North Carolina almost 15 years ago shortly after her divorce and now lives just outside of Smithfield with her son Drew, 23, a killer kitty and numerous species of wildlife.

Graduated with a BS in Accounting from Plymouth State University and has held a wide variety of occupations over the years from loading trucks for UPS to Director of Customer Relations for a communications company.  Administrator for a Mechanical Contractor in Garner, NC for the past 6 years and has over 25 years experience in Finance, Administration and Customer Relations.

Rode mini-bikes with her brothers growing up and in her late teens met her future husband who rode a '78 Low Rider and it was love at first site...with the bike anyway!  Started riding with him and after a few years she learned to ride her own but gave it up after the birth of her son until 5 or so years ago.  Have ridden several different makes and models (bikes, not husbands) and now rides a '01 Honda Shadow VLX.  Some day she'll have a "big girl" bike again.

She has always been aware of the importance of monitoring the various legislation and motorcyclists' issues and while not actively participating within the different SMRO's she has belonged to over the years, she has quietly worked behind the scenes, contacting her legislators as necessary and standing up for what she believes in.  A member of CBA for around 5 years, it was the MSAP program that was the catalyst in her active involvement and participation 3 years ago.

I don't have a particular personal philosophy but I am very passionate about the people and things I believe in.    A person is only as good as their word and I do my best to live by that, realizing that respect and trust are things that are earned and not freely given.  I dislike games and people who beat-around-the-bush so I tend to be very direct but have learned over the years that being tactful helps.   People have the freewill to do things that they want, with the understanding that there are benefits/consequences received as a result.  It’s all about self-accountability.  Mostly, I try as hard as I can to keep an eye on the past, grasp a firm understanding of the present, and maintain a view of not only the short-term future, but the long-term one as well.  Hey, it works for me.

Office of the SEA Director:

With the assistance of the CBA membership and our dedicated MSAP instructors I hope to carry on in growing the MSAP Program so that we can see this vitally important program available and utilized in each and every Driver’s Ed class across the entire state.  We take a risk each day when we saddle up to ride and those risks are mounting at an incredible pace.  It is my belief that educating ourselves to ride safely and educating those on the roadways with us is the only way we will decrease that risk.  I look forward to the responsibilities and challenges that volunteering in this capacity would bring –from writing grant proposals to working with the Governor’s Highway Safety Program staff and the NC State Highway Patrol and working with the BOD and CBA Membership.  Thanks for your support!

Charli Chandler

2010-2011 S.E.A Director Nominee

I have been a member of CBA/ABATE since 2003.  I started off as a Randolph County Chapter Member, and then transferred to Triad after traveling with that chapter to the NCOM Convention in Nashville, TN in 2005, where our chapter performed the Dip Dan Dinkle play.  It was such a wonderful experience and I was so inspired by the passion and creativity of the Triad Chapter.  Later that year, I attended the MSAP Instructor training workshop, and that is what launched me into the role of an “active member” of the CBA.  Shaggy and I paired up as an instructor team, and we have been active in the Forsyth and Guilford County School systems for four years now.  Granted, we aren’t able to do as many classes as we’d like, but we do what we can…which is what I will ask of each member if I am elected to this position.

I have watched this program evolve and grow so much over the last four years.  Matt Shamblin has done a spectacular job, and these are big shoes to fill.  I did two internships with the U.S. Dept. of Energy when I was in college.  Part of my job when I was there was researching and submitting proposals on various subjects.  I think this experience will be helpful and give me insight on working with and submitting proposal for the GHSP (although I hope Matt won’t mind a little hand holding and mentoring along the way).

I’ll be the first to admit I have a lot to learn to do this job, but anyone who knows me, knows I love a challenge and how truly passionate I am about Safety, Education, and Awareness.  I try my best to attend as many CBA state and local events as possible so that I can stay connected with and informed about what is going on with chapters throughout the state.  My intention, if elected, is to continue to do this and continue on the course of research and information sharing that Matt has set such a high standard of over the past four years.  Thanks for nominating me, I’m truly honored.
